MAGNAFLUX WET MAGNETIC INSPECTION BENCH
For routine testing of production parts, a horizontal wet magnetic bench unit is most commonly used. These machines feature a head and tail stock where the part is placed to magnetize it. In between the head and tail stock is typically an induction coil, which is used to change the orientation of the magnetic field by 90° from the head stock. This enables the operator to identify discontinuities in both directions.
MAGNAFLUX MPI YOKE
For magnetic testing of especially large or heavy parts, including some weldments or assemblies, which will not fit in a benchtop machine or where none is available (such as outdoors or at a remote location), a hand-held magnetic "Yoke" is sometimes used. This device induces a magnetic field between two poles. This process can be time-consuming on larger parts since the yoke needs to be rotated 90° for every inspection area to detect horizontal and vertical discontinuities.
